Ways to Give on Grow South Brown Match Day

On Grow South Brown Match Day, 7/11/2023-7/14/2023, your gifts to any participating non-profit organizations will have a bigger impact! Your donation will go directly to the organization for immediate needs. Each organization will receive a 50% match on your gift. These gifts may be used for immediate operating needs or added to an existing endowment. Either way, you can feel good knowing your gift has made a bigger positive difference for that charity.

5.  Make a Gift of Grain:  Must be completed at least one week prior to Match Day

Gift of Grain

Your crops are your livelihood, your life. You prepare, you plant, you nurture, and it grows. That’s what we do with the charitable gifts entrusted to the community foundation, and we invite you to grow the future of our community with us.

Why Donate Grain to the Community Foundation?

Donating a gift of grain to the Community Foundation is a simple way to make a lasting difference. The value of the grain can be used to start an endowed fund in the name of your family, for a specific nonprofit organization important to you or support the overall charitable causes in the area. No matter what gift you choose to establish or support, you can be sure that your gift of grain is growing the local area's future.

How You Benefit

By giving grain to the Community Foundation, you avoid including the sale of the grain in your farm income. Although a charitable income tax deduction is generally unavailable, avoiding declaring it as income is a significant benefit. You deduct the cost of growing the crops, which typically results in saving self-employment tax, federal income tax, and state income tax. You can benefit even if you don’t itemize your deductions and take the standard deduction.

A gift of grain can be utilized for Match Day giving, but planning is important for the grain producer, grain elevator, and the community foundation. If you want to donate grain, please call GMCF at (785) 587-8995 and ask for Marla.

6.  Donate from an IRA account: Must be arranged through your professional advisor prior to Match Day

Donors can use an IRA or other retirement assets such as a 401(k), Keogh, or 403(b) to make Grow South Brown Match Day donations. Your personal tax advisor can help you make this transaction prior to July 11, 2023.
